There are several stores in Gruene I think you absolutely shouldn’t miss.
Gruene General Store
This iconic general store has been a fixture in Gruene since 1878, offering everything from old-fashioned candy to handmade pottery. Stop in for a nostalgic shopping experience.
Nestled in the heart of Gruene, the Gruene General Store transports visitors back to a simpler time. With its rustic decor and quaintness, this sweet old-time general store is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the nostalgia of yesteryear.
You can find all sorts of old-fashioned items that will delight you and bring a smile to your face.
My sister and I had so much fun reminiscing about our childhood memories after seeing things like the Lipsmacker roller ball and the Rootbeer sliding lip balm.
But the real star of the show is the amazing fudge – a treat that draws visitors from far and wide. The rich, creamy texture and irresistible flavors will leave your taste buds singing.

The Bath Haus
The Bath Haus is an adorable store specializing in high-quality bath and body products, with a wide selection of specialized soaps, lotions, and scrubs.
My favorite scents are Bergamot and 1000 Wishes, which both smell fabulous.
One of the best things about Bath Haus is the friendly staff, who are always willing to help customers find the perfect products.
Don’t leave without trying the fabulous scrubs. You will no doubt want to pick up a jar when you feel how soft it leaves your hands feeling.
In addition to the pampering bath products, the Bath Haus also sells other cute gifts and fun items.
The bourbon barrel signs hanging outside reminded me of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail trip we just took. I love the one, “Call me Old Fashioned.”
This store is also a great place to find a Bride-to-Be or Mother’s Day gift.
Gruene Hat Company
You can’t visit Texas and leave without cowboy boots or a cowboy hat. The Gruene Hat Company is where you will find both.
The unique selling point here is that all their products are handmade by local artisans using traditional methods. This means you can expect quality materials and craftsmanship from each hat you purchase from this shop.
Looking for cowboy boots instead? Head to the back, where you will find rows and rows of the perfect kicks. Make sure to say, “Hi!” to Roper, the friendly and welcoming store pup.
Gruene Antique Company
Gruene Antique Company is a treasure trove of antiques and collectibles.
You’ll find a wide selection of items, including furniture, art, jewelry, and more, inside this 6,500-square-foot historic 1903 building.
The store offers an opportunity to discover hidden gems you might not have thought existed in the Texas Hill Country, all at affordable prices.
The atmosphere is welcoming, so feel free to take your time browsing through the store’s many treasures. Unlike some antique stores I’ve visited, this one doesn’t have a musty smell.
We loved looking through the shop, reminiscing about things we used as children, now considered antiques. Gosh, I feel old!

Start off with their amazing, giant onion rings and Texas Torpedoes, bacon-wrapped jalapenos stuffed with cheese.
You can’t go wrong with anything you order. I should know; my son worked here while going to school at Texas State, just up the road.
Our favorites are the chicken fried chicken served with mashed potatoes and fresh green beans and the finger-licking baby back ribs, and fresh coleslaw.
Make sure you save some room for dessert. Their fudge pie topped with vanilla ice cream is out of this world.
Gruene River Grill
For a delicious meal with a side of stunning river views, try the Gruene River Grill.
Their downhome cooking will have your taste buds dancing, with options like mouthwatering chicken fried steak and classic meatloaf.

You’ll find sports on the TVs and great food on the table at Mozie’s.
Head inside to try one of their specialty burgers, the Mozie’s sliders or a sauerkraut dog, with an order of their crispy fries.

Gruene Olive Tasting Room

The Gruene Coffee Haus is open from 7 AM to 7 PM daily, so make sure to stop in for your java fix while shopping in this historic town.
And, if you can’t decide what to order, try the Texas Pecan coffee or a Mocha Frappe. You can thank me later.
