A travel blog for mid-life travelers who appreciate comfort, culture, and a touch of indulgence

He Works So I Travel is your guide to effortless, elevated travel for mid-life explorers who want more than just a checklist.

Think charming boutique stays instead of cookie-cutter hotels. Relaxed itineraries with just the right mix of culture, cocktails, and coastal views. Road trips with character, cruises without crowds, and memorable meals that don’t break the bank.

As a teacher traveling on every school break and long weekend, I’ve mastered the art of maximizing time off without sacrificing style.

Travel well. Travel smart. And make every trip one to remember.

Hi, I’m Michele Smisek, an avid traveler, a Texas teacher, and the writer behind He Works So I Travel. I am so glad you are here.

My love for travel started young, but like many, it took a backseat while raising a family. Once my kids left the nest, I finally had the freedom to return to the things I love, like exploring new places, planning unforgettable getaways, and yes, writing about it all.

While my husband, a dedicated Texas football coach, stayed busy on the field, I started He Works So I Travel to share my travel stories, tips, and inspiration with fellow travelers looking for their next escape.

Whether you’re dreaming of a weekend getaway or a big adventure abroad, I hope my detailed planning, stories, and photography help you travel well, travel smart, and make every trip one to remember.

Welcome aboard!
