Get Lost in This Amazing Corn Maze in Connecticut

There’s something about fall in Connecticut that just feels like magic. The crisp air, the smell of apples in the breeze, the sound of leaves crunching underfoot. It’s the kind of season that begs you to throw on a cozy sweater, grab a cup of cider, and find an adventure. So, when my sister and I set off on a road trip to hunt down the best fall activities in the state, we stumbled upon the ultimate autumn gem: a corn maze in Connecticut.

Our original plan? To check out some cute New England towns, soak up the fall foliage, and eat our weight in cider donuts.

What we didn’t plan for was getting completely, utterly, and hilariously lost in one of the best corn mazes in Connecticut.

And honestly? It was the highlight of our trip.

Expect a line of people when you arrive, most of which will be customers waiting to enter the Apple Barrel Farm Market store to buy delicious baked goods, excellent cider, and a wealth of apple products.

Make your way along the side of the store, where people can eat at outside tables.

As you round the building, a picturesque field of photo backdrops, farm animals, and the most fantastic corn maze in Connecticut will appear.

The Best Corn Maze in Connecticut

Let me set the scene if you’ve never tackled a corn maze.

Imagine standing at the entrance of a towering field of corn, the stalks swaying gently in the breeze.

A friendly staff member hands you a map—more for decoration than actual help, if we’re being honest—and a set of clues.

The goal? Find your way out using your wits, your (questionable) sense of direction, and a little bit of luck.

Each year, the maze at Lyman Orchards has a new theme, which adds an extra layer of fun.

Ours was designed around famous inventors, which was fitting since we were about to invent new ways of getting lost.

The maze, which stretched over four acres and had two miles of paths, twists, turns, and dead ends, made us question every directional instinct.

Entrance Fee/Rules

The admission fee for the corn maze is $11 for adults, $6 for kids 4-12, and free for kids under three.

It’s lovely that part of the admission fee is donated to the American Cancer Society and the Connecticut Cancer Foundation.

Upon paying, you will be greeted at the entrance of the corn maze by employees who will give you some guidelines and, if interested, offer you hint cards and a map.

The hint cards are filled with ten trivia questions you will use when encountering labeled posts throughout the corn maze.

Read the trivia question, answer correctly, and you get a hint about how to turn.

Answer incorrectly, and, well, you will be wandering in circles with nothing but corn to keep you company.

You can choose from a variety of topics for your hints. My sister chose the movie hint card, while I chose the sports hint card. Other categories included topics such as history, health, and music.

About ten minutes in, we were entirely lost and arguing whether we had already passed “that one bent cornstalk.” Spoiler alert: That’s not a helpful landmark in a sea of identical cornstalks.

But that was part of the fun.

We laughed, debated strategy, and occasionally cheated by following teens who seemed to have a better sense of direction than we did.

Eventually, we cracked enough clues to escape—but not before fully embracing the “lost in the maze” experience.

Beyond the Corn Maze

Escaping the corn wasn’t the end of our adventure.

Lyman Orchards is more than just a corn maze; it’s an entire fall festival packed into one beautiful farm.

After regaining our bearings, we decided to check out what else was happening on the farm.

Apple Picking

If you go to Lyman Orchards and don’t pick apples, did you even go? The orchard is famous for its 100-acre apple orchard with over 30 different varieties.

We grabbed a basket and wandered through rows of trees, picking the juiciest, shiniest apples we could find. Bonus tip: go for the Honeycrisps. They’re life-changing.

Petting Zoo & Picture-Worthy Moments

Somehow, we spent an embarrassing amount of time playing with the adorable farm animals at the petting zoo.

There were fluffy goats, tiny pigs, and a very judgmental llama who seemed unimpressed with our presence.

We also couldn’t resist taking pictures with the wooden cutout boards scattered around the farm.

You know the ones—where you stick your face through and suddenly you’re a scarecrow or a giant apple? Yes, they’re for kids. No, that did not stop us.

Visit the Apple Barrel Market

Before leaving the corn maze, we stopped at the Apple Barrel Market, the on-site farm store that is basically a fall food wonderland.

Shelves were packed with fresh pies, cider donuts, homemade fudge, and warm apple cider.

We stocked up on treats for the road and may or may not have eaten an entire apple cider donut before even reaching the car.

The store sells a wide variety of apples from the orchard, baked goods, and homemade ice cream at the market creamery.

A slice of apple pie and a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream is the perfect ending to a delightful fall day at the corn maze.

Don’t worry if you don’t like vanilla; there are many flavors.

Let me tell you, the ice cream with the homemade apple pie was the best I’ve ever tasted!

Other Fun Corn Maze Activities

As if the corn maze isn’t fun enough, Lyman Orchards has other fun activities planned for the corn maze.

Past events have included a fun golf ball maze collaboration called Corn Balls in the Corn Maze. This event allowed guests to win prizes like gift cards and cash if they found a golf ball in the maze.

Additionally, guests 21 years and older should be looking for collaborations with the orchard, including events such as Brew Maze Beer Tasting on special days.

You can taste six local Connecticut beers during your journey through the maze. How fun is that!?

Planning Your Visit to Lyman Orchards’ Corn Maze

If you’re now fully convinced that you need to experience this maze (and you should be), here’s what you need to know:

  • Hours: The corn maze is typically open from early September through early November.
  • Admission: Tickets start at $11 per person, with discounts for kids.

  • Pro Tips: Wear comfy shoes, bring a water bottle, and mentally prepare to get lost. It’s part of the charm.

A Corn Maze and So Much More

Lyman Orchards offers this fantastic corn maze, but there is much more to experience.

The pick-your-own fruit experience is open from June to November and has been named one of the Top 10 spots in the U.S.A. for apple picking.

In addition to the corn maze, Lyman Orchards opens a sunflower maze in late summer.

Finally, if you have some time, the golf center has three courses you can try.

If you’re road-tripping through Connecticut in the fall, Lyman Orchards needs to be on your list. I promise you it will be a fun time for the whole family.
