Where is 30A?
30A is a beautiful, scenic highway nestled against the Gulf of Mexico in the sun-soaked paradise of South Walton in Northwest Florida. It’s technically called County Road 30A but trust me; there’s nothing “technical” about this place.
Imagine a winding, 29-mile stretch of pure coastal beauty situated between the more populated cities of Destin and Panama City. The highway is spotted with charming beach towns with amazing shops and restaurants.
The beauty of the landscape here will simply take your breath away.
I mean, where else will you find rare coastal dune lakes and lush state parks? But it doesn’t stop there.
You have miles upon miles of exquisite white-sand beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see. And the water? It’s an emerald-green hue so clear you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d only ever see it in glossy travel magazines.

It’s a place where memories are made, and time seems to slow down.
What makes the 30A towns so renowned and sought-after is their collective commitment to preserving the area’s natural beauty and creating a distinct, low-key, and upscale atmosphere.

As you explore the coastal communities, you will be amazed to find they each have distinct personalities.
As you travel from Destin east to Panama City, you will seamlessly pass through the beach towns that create what is 30A. In some cases, you won’t even know you have driven through one into another, but as you explore deeper, you will see the apparent differences.
Larger cities like Miramar Beach border 30A, so you are close enough to have a charming stay in 30A but still visit outlet malls and large convenience stores if you choose to do so.

Tucked on the western end of Florida’s scenic 30A, Dune Allen Beach is a peaceful haven for nature lovers. Its five distinctive dune lakes and the Topsail Hill Preserve State Park offer rich biodiversity and adventure.

Grayton Beach
Grayton Beach walks to its unique rhythm, welcoming those of a free spirit under its unofficial motto, “Nice Dogs, Strange People.”
Showcasing the area’s quirky charm, a giant dog mural is a community landmark for locals and visitors alike.
Grayton Beach State Park boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in the United States. The park features pristine white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and diverse wildlife.
It’s also where you can rent cabins just steps from the beach. They are primitive but popular, as they often book up to a year in advance.
Another unique feature of Grayton Beach is something called beach launching. Basically, you can jump on a fishing charter straight from the shore. How fun is that?
The laid-back vibe extends to dining, too, with The Red Bar being a local favorite for tasty bites with a laid-back vibe.
Combining a distinct personality with pure coastal beauty, Grayton Beach is an unforgettable destination for unconventional travelers.

This delightful coastal town is designed around its bustling town square, where the iconic post office, one of the nation’s smallest, draws in admirers of all ages.
Seaside is one of my favorite 30A beach towns. The beach, the shopping, the food, and the atmosphere all come together to create a perfect beach getaway.
The shopping in Seaside is plentiful. And when you have your fill of retail therapy, you can stop at one of the many restaurants. Foodies flock to Airstream Row, where vintage trailers turned food trucks serve the most delicious on-the-go food.
As day turns to dusk, Bud & Alley’s rings the sunset bell, marking the end of another beautiful day in Seaside.
Seaside is more than just a beach town—it’s an experience filled with charm, cinematic history, and culinary delights.

Why is 30A so popular?
The many quaint neighborhoods are just the beginning of what makes 30A such a special place.

This destination is a highly sought-after location for an overall unforgettable coastal experience. Tourists love the area for the countless things to do in 30A that make family bonding easy.
Family-friendly atmosphere
One of the defining features of 30A is its family-friendly vibe.
Each community prioritizes creating a safe and welcoming environment for families with children. With little to no high-rise developments, the area maintains a low-key ambiance perfect for families looking to escape the hustle and bustle of more crowded tourist destinations.
Beautiful beaches on 30A
The 30A beaches are some of the most beautiful in the United States.
Covering twenty-six miles of sugar-white sand, this region is a paradise for beach enthusiasts with its crystal clear water, which seemed to change from a vibrant turquoise to a sparkling emerald color dependent upon the beach.
Most communities have privatized their beaches for their residents and guests. However, there are ten public beach access points, most located on the western end of 30A.
When you swim at one of the many beaches, pay attention to the beach flags. Green is safe, yellow is moderate, red is high, and double red means the water is off-limits.
Rip currents can be sneaky, so watch for discolored, foamy, or choppy water. If you get caught, swim parallel to the shore until free.
Pedestrian and Bike Friendly
30A encourages outdoor activities.
Walking, biking, or using a golf cart are popular ways to travel between the communities along 30A. Bikes and golf carts are common, as they often come with vacation rentals.
The pedestrian-friendly towns all have sidewalks and bike paths connecting the neighborhoods to the beach and local amenities.
This layout allows families to explore the area on foot or by bike, providing a safe and enjoyable way to experience each community’s natural beauty and unique architecture.
Most people rent a bike and cruise along the Timpoochee Trail. This scenic 19-mile paved path parallels the 30A. It isn’t uncommon to see families biking from one community to the other.

All three highlight the natural beauty of the Emerald Coast, making them ideal destinations for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Kid-Friendly Events
